It may be a HD TV with Standard Freeview built in. Standard Freeview does not automatically contain any of the HD channels as it is not a HD service. However, you would get HD channels such as BBC HD and ITV HD if your TV had Freeview HD built in. So, my recommendation would be to buy a Freeview HD box. Remember to check on the Freeview HD website to find out when the service is rolling out in your area, as the service is actually brand new. My postcode doesn't receive this signal until June 2011, so be careful. The service at the moment is very limited.
The installer uses an HDMI cable to plug the Freeview HD box into the television. If the user has an older television, new tvs are available for purchase with Freeview HD already built in.
Not all HD TVs come with built-in Freeview. While many modern HD TVs in the UK do include Freeview tuners, allowing viewers to access free over-the-air channels, some models may not. It's essential to check the specifications of a specific TV model to confirm whether it has Freeview capabilities. Additionally, some brands may offer alternative viewing options or require external devices for access.
Freeview is the free terrestrial digital television service in the UK. 2010 is the year that it will introduce HD broadcasts. Most UK televisions sold since 2008 have a freeview tuner built in but it is only televisions sold from 2010 onwards that are likely to have an HD freeview tuner built in. The manual for the television will tell you whether it has an HD tuner. If it doesn't, it is still possible to get HD broadcasts on Freeview by purchasing an HD set top box.
Freeview is the UK's terrestrial television service and as the name implies, provides subscription free broadcasting. In 2010 it began to offer HD services as well as SD. Many HD televisions include a Freeview receiver but is is only in 2010 onwards that they began to include an HD Freeview receiver. If the HD television is 2010 or earlier it probably does't have an HD receiver To improve the quality of image, an HD freeview set top box can be added to enable the HD channels to be received. As far as SD channels are concerned, don't expect to see any noticeable improvement in quality. The built in receiver in the television will generate exactly the same signal as the external receiver on all SD channels.
You can purchase a Freeview HD box on Amazon. You can also find them at Argos, ASDA, and Comet.
Freeview HD is available all over the UK. It is available to anyone who has purchased the necessary receiver. All households in the UK are able to receive standard Freeview.
There are 2 HD Ready LG TVs in my household that have built in Freeview, but they're not working properly. The screen on both keeps getting big blocks of green, the video and audio are not what they're on external Freeview boxes. I am only curious as to weather or not there is a fix because that is the whole reason why we got the TVs in the first place as well as having HD. I mean we have had the external Freeview boxes but they're a hassle and we wont what we paid for.
The advantages of the Sony Freeview HD TV is quite large. They are the first TV to offer the Freeview HD service. It is also possible to connect to household wi-fi and watch video and movies from the internet.
