I'm not sure how to fix this :-/ but the same thing happened to me. If it still plays music, then do what I did, and put the iPod on the main playlist and listen to the songs without scrolling through them. If not, and you're iPod is under warranty, then you can get it fixed for free. Hopefully this helps!

Actually, they are waterproof. I accidentally had mines go through the washer and the dryer and they shockingly came out still fully functional.
