The technicalities of the iPod range have not really been significantly different over the years. The iPod designs have really only been altered to offer smaller sizes. The only exceptions are the iPod Shuffel (which is not really an iPod) and the iPod touch. The iPod touch is almost identical to the iPhone.
The only real significant change in the range is the iPod Nano which used solid state memory instead of a mechanical hard disk. Though the rest of the unit functions the same.

No
Either iPod Classic or iPod Shuffle.
The iPod nano was not the first iPod; the iPod classic (at that time the iPod) was the first.
Yes!
The first iPod was a first generation iPod Classic and was made on October 23rd 2001.
no, it doesn't have the 'signature' apple plug thingy in the bottom
Yes it does it works with any ipod except for the ipod shuffle
No, the iPod Nano charger will not work with the iPod Classic. While both devices use a similar 30-pin connector, the iPod Classic requires a different voltage and power output. It's best to use the charger specifically designed for the iPod Classic to avoid potential damage. Always check compatibility before using chargers with different models.
course it will work stupid
