Alright find the settings button (not an actual button, but touch it rather) if you didn't jailbreak it it should have a picture of a gear and should be grey, mine is on my home screen (you can get to your home screen by pressing the button below the actual touch screen).

Once you touch settings find the word general, it should be the 4th tab down from the top, touch general.

Then scroll down with your finger till you see the words Date & Time. It is the 9th tab down from the top, touch it.

Next you will see a button saying Set Date & Time. Push that, its the 3rd tab down from the top, or the last one on there.

Finally where it says the date (ex. today mine says Sunday, October 11, 2009) push that, now it should be highlighted blue and the letters/words will be white. Below on the bottom of your screen it should have a spindial type thing with the left side being months, then days, till finally the year. Enter the correct month, day and year and then push home... it should work fine by now, if not try these steps over again and if it still doesn't work I suggest taking it to the apple store and having a representative have a look at it :)
