Some video outputs on a converter box have sound included and some don't.
coax - video plus sound
s-video - video only
composite (yellow single plug) - video only
component (red, green, blue plugs) - video only
hdmi - video plus sound
so if you are now using one of the video only outputs from your converter box to the TV, you also have to use a separate sound output to go either to your TV or stereo. Here are some options
stereo rca (1 white and 1 red plug) - 2 channel stereo sound
digital rca (1 orange) - multi channel sound, up to 7.1 and higher depending on the source
optical (1 squarish plug with a flap over it to keep dust out) - same as digital rca but has no loss over the cable.
