Rechargeable batteries have a "life cycle". Ni-Cads can only be recharged so many times before they just completely give up. Lithium have a longer life, but eventually they too will reach their life maximum and no longer accept or be able to hold a charge.
Try replacing the batteries and see if that helps the situation.

Well it depends on what model you have I have a walkman nwz e340 model and it only take about 30 min. to charge but the battery lasts soooooo long. So if you don't have this model, I totally recommend it.
