The RAM Promotion Group (RAMPRG) has standardized the capacities as such (additional changes to the specification had no affect on capacity):

  • DVD-RAM version 1.0, recording speed 1x
    • Single-sided, one layer discs with a capacity of 2.58 GB
    • Double-sided one layer discs with a capacity of 5.16 GB
  • DVD-RAM version 2.0, recording speed 2x
    • Single-sided, one layer discs with a capacity of 4.7 GB
    • Double-sided one layer discs with a capacity of 9.4 GB

However, there are also specific versions of DVD-RAM (they obviously coincide with the specifications listed above, and are probably representative of revision numbers):

  • DVD-RAM 26: 2.6 GB (Single sided)
  • DVD-RAM 52: 5.2 GB (Double sided)

Also note that these discs are common in cartridge based media for camcorders and such. There are additional storage capacities related to these.
