There are two kinds of satellites: the artificial and natural satellite.
Well two of the four are ,the first is a Scientific satellites . The second is a Applications satellites.
geo stationary and polar orbiting
Artificial, Captured and Accreted
Man made,moon,sun
The two main types of satellites are natural satellites, which are celestial bodies that orbit planets, and artificial satellites, which are man-made objects placed into orbit around Earth for various purposes such as communication, weather observation, and navigation.
Communication satellites: these are used to transmit television, radio, telephone, and internet signals. Navigation satellites: like the GPS system, these help determine location and provide accurate time information. Weather satellites: used to monitor weather patterns and provide important data for weather forecasting.
A natural body that rotates around a planet is a satellite, as in a moon. Man made satellites (artificial satellites) are made mostly of metal and rotate around earth looking at weather patterns or orbiting other planets for information. When they say Neptune has eleven satellites, they mean moons orbiting the planet, not man made ones. There doesn't have to be anyone there for there to be satellites of both kinds there.
There are many kinds of artificial satelliets orbit our earth they are used for many purposes for communication, GPS(global Positioning system). for television etc.
The first artificial satellite that had a particular purpose (other than just for scientific research) was the Echo satellite; a large mylar balloon placed in orbit to reflect radio signals back to the Earth. Now, satellites are used for all kinds of communications; TV, cell phones, overseas phone calls, internet and such; weather satellites that help to predict the weather and track storms, and reconnaissance satellites that take photos of the Earth. Oh; GPS satellites.
Satellites use the earth's orbit and the earth's gravity to take pictures. The satellites orbit the earth in the same direction that the earth spins. That way the satellites never have to move against the earth's movement to take pictures. There are two kinds of satellites; ones that take pictures that are designed for taking pictures, and ones that are designed for spying. The ones that are designed for spying can magnify what are seeing on earth. Otherwise, the two kinds of satellites work the same way.
Satellites get up in to space by being launched in a rocket. Once at the altitude necessary for their mission, they separate from the rocket and then orbit the earth.Different kinds of satellites orbit at different heights above the earth. Weather satellites, GPS satellites, and communications satellites all perform different tasks.
The five major types of artificial satellites are: research, communications, weather, navigational, and applications. Please see the related links.
