If an iPod classic (or any iPod) is passcode locked, and the code is forgotten, one solution is to restore the iPod to factory settings, which will erase the contents of the iPod.

The unlock code is stored in plain text if you are syncing it with a PC.

When connected to a PC:

Inside the ipod_control directory there is a device directory. There is a file _locked that can be opened with Notepad. The passcode is inside there.
