The ipod volume button is at the left-hand side of your ipod, the on/off button is at the top. Maybe you confused.
There is a button on the top left side of the ipod that is it
If its a regular iPod, when it's orange, its on hold (right). If it's a touch, you just push the button on the top.
IPOD NANO- Hold the pause button down until the screen turns on. ( if it is not working, then it must be locked, unlock using the lick switch on top of the ipod.) IPOD TOUCH- There is a button on the top of the IPOD- hold it down and it will turn on.
The power button is on the top of the iPod. Depending on what generation, it will either be at the right or left

if you hit the top button of the ipod touch it will go to sleep,not turn off, you can hit it once to "wake it up" OR while the ipod is on press And Hold the top button to turn it off and the same to turn it on.
