when was the portable DVD player invented?I forget the model number, but Panasonic was the first to make portable DVD players. I know this because I am the first person I know who bought one. I had it for about two years before sony stepped up and started making them. It had a 5 inch screen, stereo speakers, weighed a lot, but had a great picture and incredible sound quality.

I recently bought a Panasonic DVD-lv50, their second generation 5 inch player, and it is the best and smallest player you can get, even today. People today are focused on bigger screens, but when watching a movie you get lost in it and soon forget the screen is so small. If you want a simple, good quality portable player, the lv50 can be found on eBay for about 50 bucks.

Only recently I have began looking for another DVD player to replace this one, and only because the screen is cracked(but it still works). I am focusing on higher resolution screens, you need a higher resolution if you go with a bigger screen, but you must be willing to pay for it.

I see some players now have 1080 displays, but don't forget DVD tops out at 720 lines of resolution soanything more is a waste of money. Although Panasonic still makes great players, toshiba is now taking the lead for best screen quality.

So that is the answer, Panasonic made the first portable DVD player.
