Kids run around unsurpervised, get in trouble, family guidance is minimal, and it is like a building on an earthquake fault shaking away whatever stability may have been there. The Party Line in the church schools was that (Broken Homes) and this was always used as a put-down, were a primary cause of juvenile delinquency, crime, and such things as drug and alcohol abuse. I can recall a church brother who had a theory that every juvenile suicide he heard or read about came from a (Broken Home) or at least one that was Unstable. at times the media would move in with very pejorative news coverage blasting divorce. One might read a crime story that is factual- Woman murdered in Park! and the follow-up, Apparently the victim of muggers, Mrs. So and so was a divorcee. this is to put it mildly, prejudicial. a loosely related problem- fueled in part by Inflation and women"s Lib ( more women working full time )- brought about the existence of what we now call Day Care centers- which are often abuse mills. so it goes.
