How does James Patterson get ideas for writing?

For Maximum Ride, he used the name Max from his other books. I think Lake House or something other than that and some other books. Also he used that Max escaped from another despicable school. That's where he got part of the idea for Maximum Ride.

Probably his imagination, maybe some parts of the story involved personal experiences of his life, maybe he was actually watching a show and got a few ideas from that show.... if there is any other ideas or anybody who agrees or disagrees with me, just write a quick comment underneath this explanation.
