Helen Keller began her schooling aged seven. She attended several schools for the deaf and for the blind, all the time working with Anne Sullivan. She learned various ways of communicating, including Braille, finger spelling and signing, as well as reading people's lips with her fingers. She graduated with a BA degree in 1904, when she was 24. It would probably have taken her several years to read and write Braille fluently.
