His mother died of cancer in 1900 and in 1920 he had to commit his younger sister Jeanie to a mental hospital, where she died 9 years later. Depression must of ran in Frost's family as he and his mother both suffered from depression and his daughter Irma was commited to a mentla hospital in 1947. Because all this had happened he had to grow up very, very quickly when he was young he was very mature as a teenager and tried to help his mother, who was a teacher, with her students.
