Tom's dreams of becoming king had finally come true, but after a while he wanted to go back to his old lifestyle as a pauper on the streets. He mainly missed his mother and sisters and got tired of being prince. He got too confused many times on how to rule a country and felt bad that he left Edward in despair as a pauper for the first time. They both probably got tired of being called mad for telling the truth that one was the pauper and the other was king.
