Most people would, in fact, prefer to be deaf over being blind. This is majorly due to the fact that deafness is a single disability, while blindness is vastly encompassing. This does not mean, however, that some (perhaps music lovers) would choose the other option.

It is more common to experience some level of hearing loss or deafness than to be blind. According to the World Health Organization, around 466 million people worldwide have disabling hearing loss, while an estimated 36 million people are blind.
