The actors in a theater production are commonly referred to as the cast. Each member of the cast portrays a specific character in the play or performance. In addition to the cast, there may also be understudies who are prepared to step in for main actors if needed. Together, the cast works to bring the script to life on stage.
Stage
To study drama, the degree would be Drama Studies or Theater. For acting, it would be Theater, Theater Performance, or Acting. Many schools also offer Theater Production & Design, or Theater Production. Some schools use different names, but these are the most common.
A group of theatrical artists working together to create a theatrical production is commonly called a theater company or a theater ensemble. Each member plays a unique role, such as actors, directors, designers, and technicians, to bring the production to life on stage. Collaboration and teamwork are key elements in this creative process.
