Anne Frank was far too young (born 1929) to play any active role in World War 2 and in 1942 she and her family had to go into hiding. She is known for the diary that she kept. She and the others in hiding were found by the Nazis in August 1944 and sent to concentration camps. Anne Frank died of typhus in March 1945 (aged 15) in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.

Anne Frank's diary was preserved by Miep Gies, who gave it to her father when he returned after the war. It was first published in 1947.
