Poe worked as an editor for various literary magazines and as a literary critic. He also served in the U.S. Army for a brief period.
one: he was enlisted in the army; two: he was an editor; three: he was a literary criticThese are really the only three jobs other than writing that Edgar Allan Poe ever had, but he was a writer BEFORE all three of them.
There is no evidence to suggest that Edgar Allan Poe ate hallucinogenic mushrooms while writing his stories. Poe's writing style and themes are more likely attributed to his personal struggles, experiences, and imagination.
On December 26, 1811, Poe's parents, Elizabeth and David Poe, passed away within days of each other, leaving their children orphaned. Edgar Poe was taken in by the Allan family, who raised him as their own. This event had a significant impact on Poe and influenced his writing throughout his life.

Poe died in 1849 and in his life was spent writing. He is considered part of the Romantic movement and created several writing styles including detective fiction and Science Fiction. He is also well know for his short stories. Life was not easy for Poe since he supported himself through his writing and as a result he moved around quite a bit. His drug use and drinking affected his life, writing, and relationships. My impression of Poe is that he was an unhappy man with great talent.
