What are some good questions to ask an author?

  • You could ask how he/she came up with the story Idea
  • You could ask If he/she was impressed with story or did not think It would be published
  • You could ask if he/she wrote any other books
  • You could ask if any one helped him/her with coming up with the idea
  • You could ask a silly question, like what's your favorite color.
  • You could ask if he/she enjoyed the making of the story

Additional questions -- because authors get really tired of getting asked "how do you come up with ideas"!!

  • Which of your characters is your favorite and why
  • Where and when do you like to write
  • What advice do you have for someone just starting out
  • What was the hardest part of writing for you

Here are some questions author DON'T hear all the time:
  • Which book was the hardest (or easiest) for you to write?
  • If you could meet any of your own characters, who would it be?
  • Do you have a favorite character among the ones you've invented?
  • What question would you most like to have someone ask you?

Here are questions NEVER to ask an author:

  • Where do you get your ideas -- everybody asks that and the answer is FROM OUR BRAINS
  • What advice do you have for new writers -- everybody asks that and the answer is QUIT ASKING QUESTIONS AND SIT DOWN AND GET WORKING
  • How do I get published -- THE SAME WAY EVERYBODY ELSE DOES: WRITE SOMETHING AND SHIP IT OFF
