It was originally Marley's but the miserly Scrooge took ownership after Marley's death. Marley was opposite in his attitude to scrooge regarding spending money. He had a lavish lifestyle and the house was considered a town house in London which would have been expensive. When taking it over Scrooge broke the house in to apartments and a cellar in to a storage area for a wine merchant - he kept one apartment for himself and rented the rest out

Marley appeared to Scrooge and warned him about changing his behavior. Marley also told Scrooge he would be visited by three ghosts.
When Marley's ghost visited Scrooge he warned him about the ghosts and his behaviour.
The first ghost tells Scrooge that he is there to show visions of scrooges past. The ghost of Christmas present suggests that that he is there as Scrooge. Has not seen the likes of him before meaning scrooge has never celebrated Christmas
This was Marley telling Scrooge that he (Marley) was allowed to come back to Scrooge to tell Scrooge of his inpending eternal life of torment should he not make changes to the way he lives his life now and sees mankind as his business not just the money he can get from them

Scrooge feels uneasy when seeing Fan because she reminds him of his past innocence and connection to family that he has since rejected. Seeing Fan highlights the choices Scrooge made that led to his isolation and selfishness, causing him to feel guilt and regret.
Show him the true meaning, let him relive his past so he sees why he made choices and experience what will happen should he not change
They show the reader that he was miserly.
The first of the three Christmas spirits who visits Scrooge is the Ghost of Christmas Past. This spirit takes Scrooge on a journey through his past to help him reflect on his life choices and actions.
