What happened to Byron Swain in The Gift?

Well after he embraced Wisty while she was on fire, Whit set her flames down and he just fell to the floor, than Wisty felt all powerful. Maybe he gave her the powers he had from her and he died. I'm not sure about that. But I don't think he's dead, that would be tragic.
