J.B. Paton, aka James B. Paton, is a Scottish anthropologist known for his work on the Nuer people of Sudan. He is best known for his book "The Nuer: A Description of the Modes of Livelihood and Political Institutions of a Nilotic People" which is considered one of the foundational texts in social anthropology.
