Mary Anning was born near Lyme Regis in Dorset. She was a very ordinary child until she was struck by lightning. She recovered and afterward was extremely bright and curious. Her father took her walking on he beach below Golden Cap,a high cliff known for it's strange rocks. One day after a huge cliff fall she realised that the rocks could be part of a skeleton of a huge sea monster with eyes the size of dinner plates and not alive today. She pieced the whole skeleton of an Ichthyosaur and when it was viewed by a local squire he purchased it as a curiosity. This money kept the poor family gong and she set up a small museum to display other fossils.
