Well, it depends on how you define 'first school', it can be argued that schooling has been going on since at least ancient China, Egypt, and Greece - and prior to that. Basically, all schooling boils down to an attempt by a knowledgeable person to teach another what they ought to know to survive in society.

Interestingly, school originally meant "leisure"; later it came to be understood as "that in which leisure is employed", but later "a group to whom lectures were given, school"
