Hi :) I think the word you may be looking for is bastardize. Bastardize has two meanings. One means to say that a child is illegitimate- that is that the child's parents weren't married. I've hardly ever heard it used that way though. Usually it means to change something so that it isn't as good as it was- like "Man-- that song was really good!
