for my opinion Gary soto right this poem base on his real life experience....this poem is about a guy who has a good life now but shes telling his daughter about his past, his telling her about the life in past that even thought life was hard back then people were still happy because they help each other to do the job.................................so why did he write the small town with one road i guess because let the readers know that past sets up our futere(john Michael d)
