Charles Ingalls, like most pioneer men of his time, was essentially a jack-of-all-trades. His "learned" profession was "carpenter" - and he was a good one - but at some time in his life, he was all of the following (and these are just the jobs we know for sure about!): Justice of the Peace, Town Clerk, Butcher, Railroad Timekeeper, Hotel Manager, Store Clerk and Insurance Salesman!
