she grew up in a segregated town,parents got divorced at a very young age so her brother and her were separated from their parents and lived with someone they refere to"mommy".oh,and she was raped when she was 8yrs old.and she wouldn't talk to five whole years cuz she thought that when she told who raped her(her real mom's bf),killed him.so she started writing poems.um...her son was in a serious accident.think that's it.

She spent 6 of her years not speaking because she got raped, she was traumatized and basically going through it in her head of deep thoughts.. A blessing in disguise I say, in result of her experience, she let those thoughts bleed on paper and the people listened. Many women especially because they may relate. People look up to, adore, the iconic legendary Ms. Angelou. But being a poet is what most people know her for, she has contributed much more to the world.
