What problems challenges and dangers do the characters of Anne Franks face?

From the hours of 8 in the morning to 6 at night they couldn't talk above a whisper. They couldn't run water during those times either, so they had to wait till evening to use the flush toilet (they used individual containers in the interim). They couldn't wear shoes during the day. During the night hours they were able to turn lights on, thanks to the blackout cardboards over the windows. They had to burn every piece of trash in the stove. And above all, they were cramped, and could never go outside for "a breath of fresh air". Eight human beings in 550 sq.ft. of space is "cramped" by any definition.
