Throughout his life Rudyard Kipling never settled on one particular religion over another. His attitude toward religion in general seems best reflected in a statement from one of his characters in the story "Egypt of the Magicians"... "All sensible men are of the same religion, but no sensible man ever tells." He described himself in 1908, at age 42, as a "God fearing atheist".
