Wordsworth often wrote about mythical gods, especially in his later poetry. His early poetry, on the other hand, usually centred around symbolic animals, such as tigers and lambs. The mythical gods he mostly invented himself to represent more intangible concepts, such as law and reason. Since these gods were often given archetypical appearances and their origination and trials in their worlds were developed in highly imaginative narratives, they bear many of the characteristics of ancient mythological gods (for example, of Norse or Ancient Greek mythology).
