Dickens's education began at William Giles's School, Chatham. However, his private school career ended in 1824 when his father was sent to jail after amassing debt. Dickens attended Wellington House Academy in London between 1824 and 1827. He left school aged 15 and began working as a clerk in a solicitor's office.
