Beverly's first published book was Henry Huggins, about an eight-year old boy who deals with sissies (girls), his friend Beezus' annoying little sister, Ramona, who is four, and the show-off+know-it-all in his neighboorhood, Scooter, who has a bike, and is eleven (at the end of the series, he is about fifteen). Cleary did a few more years with the Huggins, until, in the early sixties, she decided to cut him off entirely. She was working on the first in the Ramona series, Ramona the Pest, after all. Her last published book was Ramona's World, which deals with a nine-year old Ramona, who's life gets better at the moment. She gets a best friend, a crush on a boy, becomes a role-model for her baby sister, and finally becomes a babysitter/pet-sitter, something she's wanted ever since her older sister, Beezus, got the job. After that, Beverly Cleary... (p.s., that book was 1999), never wrote another book. She retired. So there you have it.
