No he did not begin communism. Communism existed in tribal communities where the community was small and tribal like. The tribe worked together and no one member owned any piece of land the tribe happened to be living on at the time.

Marx simply theorized that communism worldwide was an inevitable event brought about by the forces of capitalism. Although many governments, including Russia after the revolutions called themselves "communist'" there has never been a country that was communist in the true Marxian sense of communism. In that sense in modern day, communism never has begun.

Marx never started communism. He theorized that communism would evolve from capitalism and socialism at some future time. The type of communism that Marx foresaw has never yet appeared since his writings. He would have rejected any claims by any "communist" country that they are true communist countries.
