Frank Reginald Dickinson was born in Paddington, west London, in 1874. His parents moved several times while he was young and they then settled in Bayswater, west London. In 1899 he bought a plot of land in Beechnut Tree Road, Carshalton Beeches, Surrey, to build a house to live in with his future wife. He built it himself with the help of two of his brothers and called it 'Little Holland House' in homage to the artist and sculptor George Frederick Watts, who himself was living in a house called Little Holland House, close to Holland Park in west London. Frank and his bride moved into their house on their wedding night, 29th March 1904, and he lived there until his death in 1961. The house was eventually surrounded by suburbia, and is now number 40 Beeches Avenue, Carshalton. It is now owned by the London Borough of Sutton, and is an accredited museum containing all Dickinson's handmade furniture, metalwork and paintings. It is open to the public to visit on the first Sunday of each month between 1.30-5.30pm with free admission.
