Where did J.K. Rowling get her ideas?

Probably the same place everyone else does. Thinking, examinging the world around you, and just plain out of thin air randomly.

She was on a train and the train was late to its final destination. The idea just popped into her head, but she was too shy to ask for a pen so she just thought about it. it started out as just a boy who didn't know he was a wizard, then ended up going to a wizarding schools. The original names are in her books because she likes to collect names.

J.K Rowling was riding in a train when the idea for Harry Potter popped into her head, some of the other characters were still forming when she got off the train. She took some idas from book she had read to make her number one best seller. GO J.K ROWLING!!!!!!!!!

Apparently J.K. Rowling was on the subway when "the idea of Harry Potter just walked into my head fully formed." By the time she got to King's Cross station she had at least the start of what would become the Harry Potter series.
