Jamestown
The separatists, commonly known as the Pilgrims, were planning to settle in the northern part of Virginia when they came to the colonies. They aimed to establish a community where they could freely practice their religious beliefs without persecution. However, due to navigational errors, they ultimately landed at Plymouth Rock in present-day Massachusetts in 1620.
The pilgrims were known as separatists because they did not believe in the teachings of the English church so they SEPERATED from it. They did this by coming to the Americas and starting their own colonies.

The Pilgrims were called Separatists because they left the Church of England. Because of this, the Pilgrims were persecuted in England and came to the New World for religious reasons.
Puritans were known for their belief that pleasure is sin. They lived very simplistically, looking down on celebration and holidays as pagan traditions. They came to America's colonies mainly the Northeast and Massachusetts bay to be a model to the Church of England, which they wished to reform. They were not separatists.
