He isn't historically accounted for, exactly, but one person that comes to mind is the man from the Golden Axe story. A woodsmen accidentally drops his axe in a stream, which is too deep for him to reach. A water woman (fairy?) appears in the stream and holds up a gleaming axe, and asks if it is his. The man knows his axe is old and weathered, so he shakes his head. Next the water woman brings up a silver axe, to which the man claims no ownership of. Finally, she holds up a golden axe, and the man is tempted to say it is his, but he is honest and shakes his head. The water woman goes back into the water, then brings up all the axes, including the woodman's own, and gives them all to him, as a reward for his honesty. I'm not sure how well known this story is, though.
If you want real historical people you might look up local legends about individuals, or search through history textbooks.

because he was a good man
There are many famous congress people, some also presidents. These include Abraham Lincoln, Lyndon Baines Johnson, as well as William H Natcher.
Earlier in his life, Lincoln was an unsuccessful merchant. In spite of his failure in business, he vowed to repay every cent he owed. He did, thus earning the nickname "Honest Abe".
This is a very broad question - it's a bit like getting a list of people who were known to be dishonest - but you would start with Jesus Christ of Nazareth, and possibly end up with Abraham Lincoln aka "Honest Abe".
You can't entirely trust anyone but yourself. And you only tell the truth to yourself when you really listen and don't play tricks. Both George Washington and Abraham Lincoln were known for their honesty, but this is because any lies they may have told were never widely reported. Today it is easy to get caught in a lie, and after that, people will doubt anything that you say.
