The man knows his axe is old and weathered, so he shakes his head. Next the water woman brings up a silver axe, to which the man claims no ownership of. Finally, she holds up a golden axe, and the man is tempted to say it is his, but he is honest and shakes his head. The water woman goes back into the water, then brings up all the axes, including the woodman's own, and gives them all to him, as a reward for his honesty. I'm not sure how well known this story is, though.
