I think the picture you are referring to is called hand in hand. It was made in l96l in England. Main characters are Michael- male lead, Irish Catholic, Rachel, Girl lead- his friend- Jewish Girl, a Priest, a Rabbi, some human-interest characters like Lady Caroline- also called the Duchess, a noblewoman who in my opinion should have called the Bobbies in ( Police) as she knew the kids had something afoot. Film deals with an improbable Juvenile inter-faith romance and has a somewhat ambiguous ending. The Girl is not seen after having been placed in an ambulance by what we now calle paramedics after a boating accident. Michael believes she is dead. It is explained she is recovering or in a hospital, and in the near future the pair can partake of some sporting event- but the end is unconvincing. If they showed him visiting the Girl in the Hospital that would be more upbeat. a very similar but ADULT treatment of a related theme- but involving Jehovah"s Witnesses- well that's another story.- The two films are very similar.
