When they show their work to the people that rule their country, only one potter can win. When they chose Tree-ear's master potter, his name is Min, Tree-ear must go on a journy to bring the vase to the people that rule their country. On his journy some robbers find him, and smash both the vases, throwing them off a cliff. Tree-ear goes to see if they survived the long way down. But all he finds is a single shard.
