He caught a large brook trout. He fell asleep and woke up with a shock. A bee was sitting on his nose; a bee had killed his brother the year before, via an allergic reaction. He was terrified, but then a man in an immaculate black suit came and the bee dropped dead. The man had a white face and burning eyes and told narrator that his mother had also just died, stung by a bee. He said he was starving and told the narrator he was going to kill him and eat his guts. The narrator told him to eat the fish instead and the man in the black suit did, opening up his mouth wider than humanly possible. The narrator ran away and the man in the black suit chased him. He got away and met his father on the road. His father took him back to the spot, found his reel, and threw away his creel because the man in the black suit had touched it. They agreed not to tell his mother.
