A Suitable Boy ranks as the second novel written by Vikram Seth [b. June 20, 1952]. The Golden Gate [1986] is his first, An Equal Music [1999] his third. But Seth doesn't limit himself to authoring novels. He's a libretto writer: Arion and the Dolphin [1994], and The Traveller [2008]. He's known for his children's book, Beastly Tales [1991]. He's the published author of books of poetry: Mappings [1980], The Humble Administrator's Garden [1985], All You Who Sleep Tonight [1990], and Three Chinese Poets [1992]. In fact, Seth considers himself a poet first and a novelist second even though it's as the latter that he's best known. And his non-fiction writings are highly regarded: From Heaven Lake [1983], which discusses travels in Sinkiang and Tibet; and Two Lives [2005], which traces the experiences of his Great Uncle Shanti Behari Seth and German-Jewish Great Aunt Henny Caro.
