Robert Stevenson was a Scottish civil engineer and renowned lighthouse designer who lived from 1772 to 1850. He is perhaps best known for designing and constructing many lighthouses around the British Isles, including the iconic Bell Rock Lighthouse in Scotland. Stevenson's engineering innovations greatly improved the safety of maritime navigation during his time.
Stevenson's mother kept him inside through the damp Scottish winters because of his tuberculosis.
