Marx wrote a lot of books and pamphlets in his time but the two he is most known for are The Communist Manifesto (with Friedrich Engels) and Capital. There was going to be four volumes of Capital but Marx only finished the first in his lifetime. When he died he was nearly done with the second and making considerable progress with the third but the fourth volume never got beyong the rough manuscript stage which was later published as Theories of Surplus Value.
