It means slow and painful. It describes the music of atleast the first Gymnopedie that Eric Satie made. Well, no. Gymnopédie is the French form of the Greek word used to described naked martial arts "dancing". Satie usde this word for three piano pieces being, as usual with him, somewhat absurd. The first of those pieces carries the tempo marking "lent et douloureux" which means "slow and mournful" (or "painful" if you prefer).
