There are two probable reasons Otto remarried. On is that he needed someone to care for in his life. Secondly, he truly fell in love with Fritzi Geiringer. Otto had revered Edith Frank, and no man could have treated a wife better - but he was not in love with Edith (it had been almost an arranged marriage), and Anne had discerned as much in her diary. The pages of the diary where Anne discusses this are now available in "The Diary of Anne Frank - the Critical Edition", but were, of course, suppressed by Otto for many years out of respect for his dead first wife. When he was dying, he gave the pages to Cor Sujik, and told him he "didn't want them back". After Otto's death, Sujik eventually gave them to the Anne Frank Foundation, and they are included in the Critical Edition.
