Why didn't Anne Frank marry Peter?

Anne Frank never got the chance to marry Peter. They both died during the war when they were living in different camps. Anne Frank died at the age of 15 in Belsen-Bergen camp in March 1945 of typhus. Peter died in Mauthaussen after a three day death march. He was sent to the sick barrack on 11 April 1945 and the red cross guessed he died on 2 May 1945, only three days later, on 5 May 1945, the camp was released. Even if they did survive, no one knows for sure if they would have gotten married.

Anne Frank and Peter van Pels shared a close bond during their time in hiding together, but there is no evidence to suggest they had romantic feelings for each other. Additionally, their circumstances in hiding and the war made marriage impossible. Tragically, both Anne and Peter died in concentration camps during the Holocaust.
