This was considered a (national) hoor to a national heroine or celebrity. Helen"s body was cremated and her ashes placed in a niche alongside those of her Teacher Annie Sullivan Macy, and another urn containing the remains of Polly Thompson, one of her longtime guides and traveling companions. Miss Keller was of the Swedenborgian religion and the Washington Cathedral is of the Episcopalian denomination. Perhaps the Swedenborgians do not have any cemetery or similar facilities in Washington. It was originally intended that she be taken to Tuscumbia for burial in a local cemetery. There is a statue 9Bronze, very well done) of her in a cemetery that is, alas a cenotaph, not an actual tomb site. Some Blind charity did a very subdued voiced under commercial showing this cemetery in the late sixties, early seventies but did not mention that Helen is not interrred there.
she is buried next to Helen Keller in the Washington national cathedral.
She died in Connecticut in l968., the funeral was somewhat hush hushy. the body was eventually cremated and her ashes placed in Washington Cathedral. She was believed to have professed the Swedenborgian faith. The large bronze statue of her in an Alabama graveyard is in effect a centotaph, she is not buried there. As far as I know there was no post-mortem examination which could have shed light on her various handicaps and adaptations- and perhaps... better left unsaid.
After Helens passing, the burial urn containg her ashes was placed next to Annie's and Polly's at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. ~CaitlinDavis;)
among other were Helen Keller, Anne Sullivan and Admiral Dewey and other one that I do not know. Please help me.
Helen died on June 1, 1968. Her funeral was held at the National Cathedral in Washington D.C. on June 5, 1968.
Helen Keller was born in 1880 in Tuscumbia, Alabama died at the age of 87 in Wrentham, Massachusetts. Her ashes are at the Washington National Cathedral.
Yes, there are several things named after Helen Keller, including the Helen Keller International organization, the Helen Keller National Center for Deaf-Blind Youths and Adults, and the Helen Keller Archive at the American Federation for the Blind.
Unknown and unknowable. Her funeral was kept relatively private, it was evidentaly in Connecticut. Helen"s body was cremated and her ashes interred in a niche in the Washington Cathedral. The statue in Bronze at the Tuscumbia area cemetery shown in some TV commercials well, is a sort of cenotaph, she was never buried there. As far as I know her body was never autopsied.

Helen was not buried in the usual sense. After a somewhat secretive funeral-she died in Connecticut as I recall, Her body was cremated and the cremation ashes eventually deposited in a niche in the Washington Cathedral near those of Annie Sullivan Macy her teacher and so-called Miracle Worker and her later companion, Polly Thompson, the Memory jogger is to think of Macy"s store and the Thompson gun!. There is something a little fishy about all this. It was originally planned that she be returned to her home town, Tuscumbia and buried there. a Blind-charities television commercial which circulated in the early seventies had cemetery shots and an illustration of a full-length (alas cenotaphic, as she is not buried there) standing statue of Miss Keller which appeared to be full size and Bronze(as viewed in a B&W TV set) Of course statues do not have to be tied into burial sites, but this one was in a cemetery.
